Choosing a straight leg by the detail you will see every day
A straight leg hides its differences in small things, so start with the front. The button-front pair carries a row of buttons and four pockets. The zip-pocket style closes its two side pockets, which matters if your phone rides in them on a commute. The pleated front version folds a little extra room into the top of the thigh.
Nearly all of them are a polyester knit with 10 to 20 percent spandex, so they stretch when you sit and bend and go back into shape when you stand. A straight leg looks longest when the hem just touches the top of your shoe. With flats, look at your usual length. With a two inch heel, the same pair lands closer to the floor.
